Our History
Petrucela & Company is an automobile and cargo inspection company that has been serving all aspects of the transportation industry since 1947. In all of our years of existence, we have been owner operated the entire time. We pride ourselves on providing accurate, fair and independent inspections for our clients while maintaining unsurpassed quality and personal service. Petrucela & Company’s service area currently covers the East, West and Gulf coasts of the United States and Canada as well as Alaska. Our unparalleled customer service includes the use of the latest technology. This includes a partnership in the web based database known as AssetBison developed by Bison Grid. AssetBison is highly flexible and compatible with client’s claims departments.

Nicholas Petrucela
Nicholas Petrucela founded the Company in 1947 while working as an auto body repairman in San Francisco. Much of the work in the early days was consulting on loading/unloading, storage procedures and damage prevention. Actual inspection of vehicles began for marine traffic between San Francisco and Honolulu. The Company soon expanded to surveying automobiles all along the West Coast and Honolulu, including European Imports, as well as repairing damaged vehicles for survey clients and private individuals. With his auto body expertise, Mr. Petrucela was soon preparing damage estimates and completing repairs for rail companies as well as steamship companies. Nicholas Petrucela retired in 1986.
Marty Petrucela
Marty Petrucela began working full time for his father in 1960. He managed the auto body and mechanical repair shops from 1965 until 1980 when he became Operations Manager of the entire operation. Following his father’s retirement, Marty assumed ownership in 1986. In 1989, Marty made the decision to specialize in automobile and cargo inspections. The ever changing shipping industry forced a difficult decision to move the Company headquarters from its roots in San Francisco to Port Hueneme in 1991. Once the relocation was complete, he began moving the Company toward technology by instituting the use of hand held data collectors. This move improved productivity both on the terminal by eliminating recording errors and in the office by speeding report turnaround time. Marty watched steadfastly over the Company until 1998.
Nick Petrucela
Nick Petrucela has owned and operated the company since 1999, staying ahead of tech advancements in surveying and ensuring his team is always equipped with the latest tools. His strong industry relationships and commitment to progress have driven growth, including international partnerships. In 2008, the company’s headquarters moved back to the Bay Area, and since then, it has expanded to serve 25 ports across the East, West, and Gulf Coasts, consistently using cutting-edge technology to provide top-notch service.
